Dogfighting is Abuse Essay - 1214 Words
In America, most of the economy is based, in some way, on sports which include but not limited to football, soccer, and baseball. There are some instances, however, where individuals view certain sports differently, especially when they involve animals. Although many individuals see it as a sport, dogfighting constitutes as abuse because of the prices paid for the humansââ¬â¢ gain. Many dogfighters want to claim that dogfighting is simply another sport; however, the underlying effects it has on the animals are more severe than on humans. These canines ââ¬Å"spend their lives alone on chains or in cages and only know the attention of a human when they are being trained to fight and they only know the company of other animals in the context ofâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦After the fight, both dogs are critically wounded, often with massive bleeding, ruptured lungs, broken bones, and other life threatening injuriesâ⬠(Legal). This sounds almost exactly like a fight that o ccurs between two stray dogs on the street, but what categorizes this as abuse is the aftermath. The losing dog ââ¬Å"dies or is killed, unless he has any salvage value to his owner. When dogs are killed after a match, it is not done by humane euthanasia methods, rather the animals are shot, beaten, or tortured. The animals that survive generally never see a veterinarian, regardless of the gravity of injuries or the amount of suffering that the animals will have to endureâ⬠(Gibson, General). Time Magazine elaborates that ââ¬Å"fighting dogs who lose are routinely hanged, drowned, or electrocutedâ⬠(Von Drehle). The US outlawed death by electrocution years ago, but these people use these harsh ways of killing innocent creatures and have no qualms about it. All the effort these dogs put into fighting for the owner is wasted by one fight, and they suffer greatly.
